Rachel's Home Child Care Philosophy

Updated: Nov 24, 2023

At Rachel’s Home Child Care, I believe in providing children in my service with the highest quality of care allowing each child to reach their fullest potential by enhancing all development domains as well as Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes and filling their cups.

I offer a warm, homely environment which reflects the children, families, and communities in which we belong. I strive to build trusting relationships with all children, to enhance each child’s sense of belonging and wellbeing, which in turn supports each child’s holistic development. I ensure every child feels love, security, and a sense of belonging, and scaffold the development of each child as an individual who can grow their separate identity and qualities while still contributing within a large group of peers. I have high expectation for children to explore and experiment and encourage them to exceed their own expectations through their learning.

I strive to provide a positive environment where children, families and community are made to feel welcome and considered to be part of our family regardless of gender, race, culture or religious beliefs. I am dedicated to reflecting the principles and practices which underpin the Early Years Learning Framing while meeting the National Law, Act and National Regulations. I am constantly looking for ways to improve the service I offer the and the environment which the children can thrive in.

I recognise that all children are unique, and I am to provide an individualized focus for each child in my weekly program allowing for planned and spontaneous activities expanding on children’s existing knowledge, ideas, cultural differences, and individual abilities.

Within and outside our home environment, I offer activities encouraging children to take ownership of their own activities, excursions, incursions, food choices and more. Giving children an offering of balanced programme to meet their individual needs using an all-encompassing flexible daily routine and free flowing curriculum plan.

I believe all children are active individual play-based learners, creating and building knowledge, learning, self-image, confidence, and independence through their daily experiences and by nurturing this in each child I can encourage a positive approach to themselves, a sense of responsibility, self-discipline and self-esteem.

I believe that children need to be given opportunities to be engaged in agricultural and horticulture-based activities and given the opportunities for risk taking and challenging their own abilities within a safe environment. Children at Rachel’s Home Child Care therefore have opportunities to rear various animals including lambs, calves, ducks, chickens, quails, butterflies and more. As well as have the opportunity to develop and tend to their own gardens and reap what they sow. When children start with Rachel’s Home Child Care, I establish fruits and vegetables that we grow that the children like and if they are missing from our garden, I endeavour to obtain these. I believe that children need to know that their food doesn’t just come from a supermarket shelf.

I believe that children need to develop connections with our greater community and therefore encourage children to participate in regular community outings including attending story time, local play centres, and other family day care service, schools, and playgroups. As well as involving children in activities such as grocery shopping, dropping children to school and collecting them from school as well as visiting businesses and events which are part of our community such as the farmers markets and local dairies and farms, parade and more.

I believe that our community is what we make it and therefore giving families a sense of ownership of Rachel’s Home Child Care by having an expectation that they get involved with what are doing enables the service to thrive. Therefore, we engage parents with working bees, nights out, BBQ’s, celebrations, decisions which are made, and more. I believe that the partnerships formed through respectful relationships enables everyone to achieve far more than they can by themselves.

I believe that as an educator I am approved by an external service to ensure I am continually meeting if not exceeding the requirements of running a family day care service. I Believe that my Family Day Care service is there to provide professionalism within a home-based business and educational setting. I will endeavour to seek guidance in relation to education and care of children as well as guidance in relation to operating a business within a legal and ethical framework.

I believe that as an educator I have an obligation to continue my learning by completing various webinars, courses, workshops, and other trainings throughout the year as well as completing the required First Aid training every 3 years, Asthma and Anaphylaxis certifications every 12 months and Child protection (RRHAN) every 18 months. I will endeavour to complete training each year to improve my ability and skills in providing an exceptional ever changing and growing education and care service within my home.
